Ask about your masonryHow can I tell whether my home needs repointing?
Look for mortar that is missing, powdery, deeply recessed or easy to scrape, along with damp patches or loose units. Not every weathered joint needs replacement, so the wall should be assessed to separate normal aging from areas that are allowing water in.
Can you repoint only the damaged section?
Yes, when failure is localized and the surrounding mortar remains sound. If deterioration is widespread, a larger area may produce a more durable and visually consistent result. We explain the practical repair boundary before work starts.
Why does mortar compatibility matter on an older brick house?
Mortar should be able to manage moisture and seasonal movement with the brick or stone around it. Mortar that is too hard can force stress and weathering into softer historic units, causing the faces to crack or spall.
Will new repointing look different from the old mortar?
Fresh mortar usually looks cleaner and may change as it cures and weathers. We match colour, aggregate, joint profile and tooling as closely as practical, but a newly repaired area may remain visible for a period of time.
Does repointing stop all water leaks?
Repointing closes failed mortar joints, but water may also enter through roofs, flashing, windows, sills, coping or drainage problems. We point out visible clues so the masonry repair is not presented as a cure for an unrelated leak.
